According to the police, the accused Hari Singh (21) had been working in the NIFT canteen for two years.

The victims lodged a complaint at the HSR Layout police station on Sunday evening, a day after the incident.

Drunk

According to the police, the accused was allegedly drunk when brought to the station on Saturday night and had feigned ignorance about the charges levelled against him.

However, after being questioned again, he confessed to the crime, the police said.

Security lapses

Taking note of the security lapses on the NIFT campus, the police said they were going to discuss the issue with the college authorities.

The cook had gained entry into the hostel block, which is located a few feet away from the canteen building.

The canteen employees were living on campus, a fact the students were oblivious to.

One of the victims said the accused had expressed “regret” about the incident when he saw them at the police station on Sunday night.

“But I have been left traumatised and will take this case further,” said the student.
