Need a birth certificate? Or, get your building plan approved? Or, avail a khata? Locating the nearest BBMP office may soon be a thing of the past as a bouquet of services is just a click away with many more to be added soon.
Kumar Pushkar, Special Commissioner, IT, said that the aim is to minimise the citizen – BBMP official interface. Earlier attempts to bring these services online had been defeated as most times the software developed in-house by BBMP was below par and not user-friendly. To correct this, BBMP has got National Informatics Centre (NIC) to develop all the new platforms.
Not just that, BBMP has taken a giant leap in transparency. After a long wait, the city’s road history has gone online along with data on road cutting. Both initiatives are integrated with Geographical Information System (GIS). However, live updates are not available yet.

As of now, BBMP publishes all financial transactions, property tax collection reports and job code with information on all payments, everyday.
Srikanth Vishwanathan, co-ordinator, Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy, said that the civic body took a lot of steps to boost transparency in the last one year. These initiatives ensured that the city was ranked second, only behind Hyderabad, among 21 cities surveyed in 2015 for transparency practices by Janaagraha as part of its Annual Survey of Indian City Systems (ASICS).
