However, there was poor response from commuters; BMRCL hopes ridership will improve in coming days

Services being resumed on the Green Line

Two days after resuming Namma Metro services on the Purple Line, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) started running trains on the Green Line (Yelachenahalli to Nagasandra) on Wednesday. Trains were operated in two shifts from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 4.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.

Resumption of services on the Green Line received a poor response on the first day. A.S. Shankar, Executive Director (operations) of BMRCL, said, “Trains will be operated in two shifts for six hours with 96 round trips. Response received is too low. We are hoping that in the coming days, ridership will increase.”

Passengers were allowed inside the stations after thermal screening and hand sanitisation. As per the SOP, only smart card holders were allowed to travel. To maintain social distancing, 400 people can travel in a six-coach train that has a capacity for close to 2,000 passengers.

Hemanth G., a passenger, said, “The BMRCL has taken various safety measures for passengers. Very few are travelling now as many are working from home. In the coming days, the number will increase once the trains are operated for longer hours.”

Starting from Friday (September 11), the BMRCL will operate trains from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on both the lines with a frequency of five minutes in peak hours and 10 minutes in non-peak hours.
