Music festival in memory of Pandit Gawai

The 11th annual music festival in memory of renowned Hindustani musician late Pandit R.V. Seshadri Gawai will be held on Sunday at the Kannada Sahitya Parishat in Chamarajpet.

V.M. Nagaraj, president of Pandit R.V. Seshadri Gawai Punya Smruthi Samithi, told presspersons that the stalwart had trained hundreds of musicians both vocal and instrumental. He had published a magazine ‘Gaayana Ganga’ for over 48 years. “His disciples have been organising this event as a tribute to their guru,” said Mr. Nagaraj, one of the disciples.

The festival will begin with Hindustani instrumental/vocal by Mastar Likit Krishna Kikkeri at 3 p.m.

It will be followed by presentation of awards to senior Hindustani vocalist Lalit J.Rao and spiritual thinker and poet V. Krishna Shetty. Ms. Lalit J. Rao will present a concert at 6 p.m.

Gangamma Keshavamurthy, chairperson of Karnataka Sangeeta Nruthya Academy, will preside. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Dinesh Gundu Rao will take part.
