Mother drowns son in sump before jumping into it

Published - June 12, 2014 12:21 am IST - Bangalore:

A woman drowned her son in the underground water tank at her house in HSR Layout before jumping into it herself on Tuesday. Police identified the dead persons as Lakshmi (26), homemaker, and her son, K. Sai (6).

Lakshmi’s husband, P. Subbarao, a software engineer, found a note on his bed written by Lakshmi asking him to find them in the water sump (underground tank) in the building.

According to the police, the family relocated to Bangalore from the U.S. two years ago after Sai fell ill.

Sources said that Sai had been diagnosed with piles and he had undergone a surgery two years ago at a private hospital in the city.

Mr. Subbarao said that after the surgery of their son there was a marked change in the behaviour of his wife. He claimed that she would often go into depression over even minor ailments that her son suffered. “Last night, Sai had fever and complained of pain in his limbs. He went to sleep without dinner and this had upset my wife. This may be the reason for her to have taken the extreme step,” he said.

Post-mortem examination of the bodies was done before handing over them to the family.
