As many as 73 per cent of women travelling by Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) think the journey is safe, says a survey.

A study conducted by the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) said 85 per cent of commuters surveyed travel by BMTC four days in a week and 72 per cent travel in non-air-conditioned buses. Further, 77 per cent said travelling by BMTC buses is comfortable.

The survey results were released here on Monday at an event to create awareness among the public on need to use public transport. On the fourth of this month, the BMTC observed the 60th “Bus Day”, to encourage public transport. As a part of this, 1,500 general-shift schedules were extended beyond normal schedule from 7 pm to 10 pm.
