More than half of encroached government land to be regularised

‘Bengaluru Urban district encroachers will be booked’

The State government will regularise more than 50 per cent of encroached government land in the State.

Minister for Revenue V. Srinivas Prasad, who visited the KPCC office here on Thursday, told presspersons that bagair hukum land being cultivated by farmers would be regularised.

Farmers can regularise revenue land by submitting Forms 50 and 53 before the Land Grant Committees for regularisation under the Karnataka Revenue Act.

As much as 7.45 lakh acres would be regularised against the over 13 lakh acres encroached upon in the State. All those who have encroached land in Bengaluru Urban district would be booked under the law, he said.

A total of 1,700 surveyors have been appointed and posted in all districts. Licensed surveyors have also been permitted to survey land to clear ‘podi’ lands. An additional 36 surveyors have been posted to Bengaluru Rural district to recover encroached land, he said.

The A.T. Ramaswamy Committee and the V. Balasubramanian panel had reported encroachment of government land in the State, and recommended to the government to initiate steps to recover it. Mr. Prasad said steps had been taken to correct mistakes in land records (RTC) as well.
