H.D. Deve Gowda, national president of the Janata Dal (Secular), on Thursday, urged the government to set up a commission, headed by a High Court judge or an eminent person, to study the contribution of successive governments since the formation of the State to the overall development of North Karnataka region, and the extent of the implementation of the recommendations by the high-power committee for redressal of regional imbalances in Karnataka, headed by Dr. D.M. Nanjundappa in 2002.
Addressing presspersons, Mr. Gowda demanded that a realistic timeframe should be fixed for the committee to study and submit its report.
Strongly condemning Nasscom’s “blunder” of not inviting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for the programme attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, he said: “The act is not an insult to the post of the Chief Minister, but disrespect shown to six crore Kannadigas.”

To a query on the alleged delay in arrival of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to the State to console family members of farmers, who had committed suicide, Mr. Gowda said Mr. Gandi visited non-Congress States, where farmers committed suicide first, and is now visiting Karnataka.
