Mandur residents to keep up pressure on BBMP

Residents of Mandur and those living in the neighbourhood are relieved as the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has stopped dumping garbage at the landfills days before the December 1 deadline. But they are apprehensive as 15 lakh tonnes of waste in the landfills is yet to be cleared.

Though the BBMP promised the Mandur residents that the accumulated waste will be processed, the proposal in that regard is yet to be approved by the government.

Gopal Rao, a resident who participated in the protest against garbage dumping in the village, said residents would hold a meeting with BBMP officials once a month.

“This way, we hope to keep up the pressure on the BBMP to process accumulated waste as soon as possible. The civic body must act soon as the Chief Minister has also promised to look into the issue,” he added.

Awaiting clearance

BBMP Commissioner M. Lakshminarayana told

The Hindu that the proposal was likely to be cleared by the government shortly and that the tenders would be floated soon.
