The police arrested a 35-year-old cloth merchant who allegedly stabbed his in-laws to death and injured his wife and neighbour over a trivial row at Annapoorneshwarinagar on Friday night.

The accused, Senthil Kumar, was an alcoholic and used to harass his wife Satyavathi frequently, said the police. Unable to bear it, Satyavathi along with their two-year-old daughter moved into her parents’ house in Annapoorneshwarinagar.

On Friday, Senthil went to his in-laws’ house and created a scene, asking Satyavathi to return. He got into a heated argument with his father-in-law, Kumar, 60, and mother-in-law, Murugamma, 50. In the heat of the moment, Senthil took out a knife and stabbed Kumar and Murugamma to death.

He also attacked Satyavathi and a neighbour, Manjunath, who came to the rescue of Kumar and Murugamma.

Senthil fled the scene and neighbours rushed to Satyavathi’s help after she raised an alarm.

Neighbours took the injured to a nearby private hospital, where the doctors declared Kumar and Murugamma brought dead. Satyavathi and Manunath are said to be out of danger.
