Man who found abandoned newborn keen to adopt him

The police rescued a newborn boy found abandoned outside the Om Shakti temple next to the Hoodi railway track on Wednesday.

Jayaram, a local resident who found the baby, took him to the K.R. Puram hospital and then called the police. “We went to his house and shifted the baby to Vani Vilas Hospital,” said a police official, adding that Mr. Jayaram, a businessman, wanted to take care of the baby but was told to follow due procedure. He has now written to the hospital saying he is willing to adopt him.

Police said the baby had some scratches on his body but fortunately had not been mauled by stray dogs.

The police are inquiring with surrounding hospitals in a bid to trace the mother.

Priest found dead

Police have ruled out foul play in the death of a priest whose decomposed body was found in his house in Wilson Garden on Wednesday morning,

Police broke open the door of the house of Manjunath (40) a resident of J.K. Pura in Vinayaka Layout, after neighbours complained about the smell. They suspect the priest, last seen on Saturday, suffered a cardiac arrest.

He had been living alone after his wife’s death a few years ago.

Temple burgled

Burglars drilled the wall of a temple on Kanakapura main road and made away with the gold jewellery and cash box on Tuesday night.

The theft, at the Anjaneya Swamy Temple on Kanakapura main road near the Banashankari Temple, was discovered by the priest early on Wednesday when he came to do the morning puja.

Kumaraswamy Layout police said the value of the stolen property is yet to be ascertained.
