A 55-year-old employee of a travel agency sustained severe injuries when the landlord of the building allegedly unleashed his pet Doberman on him over a trivial row at his office in Dasanapura on the outskirts of the city on Saturday.
The Madanayakanahalli police arrested Rangachari, 50, charging him under negligent conduct with respect to animals (section 289 of IPC), trespass and for voluntarily causing hurt.
The victim has been identified as Shivaji Singh. According to the police, Goutham Chand Jain, owner of a travel agency, had rented a building belonging to the family of Rangachari and was paying rent to his siblings. It was an ancestral property and Rangachari was having a dispute with his siblings to claim share.

Inquiries revealed that Rangachari would pick up fights with Mr. Jain, demanding that the rent be paid to him. However Mr. Jain would refuse stating that he was paying rent to the owner with whom he had made a rental agreement. On Saturday, Rangachari along with his pet dog barged into Mr. Jain’s office and ransacked the premises demanding that the rent be paid to him.
The victim, Mr. Singh, who was in office, objected to his unruly behaviour and tried to stop him. Enraged by this, Rangachari unleashed the dog on him.
When he raised alarm for help, neighbours rushed in and took the profusely bleeding Mr. Singh to a private hospital where he is said to be in critical condition.
