Man arrested for selling wife, forcing her into prostitution

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths arrested a 35-year-old for selling his wife for Rs. 30,000 to a man who forced her into prostitution.

The incident came to light when the officials of Women and Narcotics wing of CCB, raided a prostitution den being operated from a rented house in Subramanyapura on Thursday. A woman was rescued by the police and two pimps, identified as Krishna (32) and Narasimha (35), were arrested.

A detailed inquiry revealed that the victim was Narasimha’s wife, who sold her to Krishna for Rs. 30,000 about a year ago.

Krishna not only forced her into prostitution but also employed Narasimha as her pimp to get customers, a Senior Police Officer said.

Further inquiries revealed that the victim was infected with HIV and whoever she had entertained may have also been infected, a Senior Police Officer said. During the raid, the Police also arrested four customers.

The police have booked a case against Narasimha under section 370 (buying or disposing of any person as a slave) and 420 (cheating) and remanded them to judicial custody. The victim has been rescued and sent to a Government Home for women for further procedure.
