The First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Monday ordered the release of three persons arrested by the city police in the Malleswaram bomb blast case.

The court in its order directed the authorities concerned to release Peer Mohideen, Saddam Husain and Tenkasi Haneefa, who had been named as prime suspects in the case.

While Haneefa and Hussain, will be handed over to the Madurai and Salem police for their alleged role in other criminal cases, Mohideen will be released on Tuesday. All three are currently at Parappana Agrahara jail here.

Though the accused were portrayed as the prime accused in the first information report (FIR) who planted the explosives and executed the blast, the police later dropped their names while filing the charge sheet after six months, giving them a clean chit.

“These three could have been released by the police much earlier, but arresting them and sending them behind bars on charges of terrorism for no fault of theirs, amounts to serious lapses on the part of investigators for which they are liable,” S. Balan, lawyer for the three, told The Hindu.
