Maharashtra ATS seeks Akram’s custody

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is seeking the custody of Mohammed Akram of Nanded district of that State who, it says, has created a terror module in his hometown to attack politicians and a few Hindutva leaders there.

Akram, Nayeem Siddiqui and Ubaidur Rahman, who were among those arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on the charge of plotting to assassinate a few right-wing politicians and journalists in August. The three were produced before the court; the 1st Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate remanded them in judicial custody till October 11.

While the CCB made 14 arrests, the alleged kingpin, Zakir Ustad, is still at large.
