Seven injured as van rams bus

Twelve students of Christ School in Lakkasandra were travelling in the van that collided with a BMTC Bus in Bangalore on Friday.

It was a lucky escape for seven schoolchildren, who sustained minor injuries, when their school van rammed a BMTC bus near Dairy Circle on Friday.

The van was ferrying around 12 students of Christ School in Lakkasandra. The injured students were rushed to private nearby hospitals. Salomi Chowdary (7) sustained head injuries, and Kavya (8), sustained injuries on her arm and ear.

Kavya’s father Honnappa, a migrant labourer from Raichur and resident of Lakkasandra, said: “Around 7.45 a.m. the van picked up my children. However, a few minutes later, newspaper delivery boy told us about the accident.”

Shiva Reddy, a resident of Lakkasandra, whose son Rohit (8) was injured, said that he had been sending his son in the same van for five years now.

“The children are in a state of shock,” he said. Rohit’s mother, Shalini, said that her son had sustained scratches all over his back and is recovering.

The Audugodi traffic police have taken both the drivers into custody for questioning. The police said that the van had been overcrowded and have booked the van driver under the Motor Vehicle Act and Rules for violating rules.
