‘Stop city's further expansion or it'll become a slum'

To ensure that the younger generation and also foreigners get to know about the city's founder Kempegowda, the State Government should set up a Kempegowda museum, former Minister P.G.R. Sindhia has said.

Speaking after inaugurating the 498th birth anniversary of Kempegowda organised by Bangalore Nirmapaka Kempegowda Kendra Samithi, Mr. Sindhia said that if the planners did not stop the city from further expansion, Bangalore would turn into a slum.

Findings

He said that the State Government was yet to implement the findings of A.T. Ramaswamy Committee that was set up to study the rampant encroachment of land in and around Bangalore.

To mark the occasion and also to honour the city's founder, the samithi organised the celebrations in a traditional way.

Enthralled

The audience was enthralled with “Dollu Kunitha,” a traditional folk dance.

B.L. Lakke Gowda, president of Bangalore Nirmapaka Kempegowda Kendra Samithi, reiterated that the international airport at Devanahalli near the city should be named after Kempegowda.

The Government should install Kempegowda's statue in front of the Vidhana Soudha or the High Court and build Kempegowda Kala Bhavans in the four directions of the city, he said. Chickpet MLA D. Hemachandra Sagar and councillor B.R. Nanjundappa were present.
