The management of car manufacturer Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. should immediately and unconditionally lift the lockout declared on March 16 and initiate talks with its workers, Bharatiya Janata Party MLC Ashwathnarayana has said.

Failing this, he said, the State government should withdraw the tax exemptions that have been given to the Bidadi-based company. Mr. Ashwathnarayana spoke at a news conference here by the former HAL chairperson C.G. Krishnadas Nair. The Toyota workers have been on strike over a wage dispute.

Describing the lockout as unfair and anti-labour, the legislator said the State government should intervene in the matter through the Labour Commissioner and ensure that all fair demands of the striking workers are met. The lockout has affected 7,000 Toyota workers and at least 10 small auxiliary units that depend on the company, he said.
