A construction worker fell to his death from the fifth floor of a commercial complex under construction on Lavelle Road on Monday afternoon. The deceased, identified as Subramani (43) was a resident of Udaynagar, near K R Puram.

Subramani was a foreman at Basappa Complex on Lavelle Road. Police said that Subramani along with four other labourers had put up a makeshift lift to transport sand and cement to the fifth floor and was reportedly sitting on the parapet wall on the fifth floor, collecting sand bags that were being sent up.

The labourers overloaded the lift with three sacks of sand at once, due to which it collapsed and Subramani, who was handling the machine sitting on the parapet wall, lost his balance as the lift caved in. He died on the spot.
