KSP to move State govt. to restrict duration of ‘Naada Geethe’

It should not exceed 150 seconds, says Baligar

The Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP), the representative body of Kannadigas, is all set to recommend to the State government to restrict the duration of the ‘Naada Geethe’ (State anthem) to 150 seconds.

A decision on fixing the duration was taken at a meeting of writers, poets, singers, Kannada activists, and scholars held with the KSP here on Saturday.

Jnanpith recipient Chandrashekar Kambar, Chandrashekar Patil and others attended the meeting. Research scholar Chidananda Murthy and noted poet Nissar Ahmed also urged the KSP to restrict the duration of the anthem.

The meeting was convened after KSP received thousands of representations on cutting the length.

According to KSP president Manu Baligar, the parishat will tell the government not to cut any stanza or distort any word in the anthem. The anthem should be sung with only background music, he added

“The meeting authorised the KSP to send a recommendation to the government, based on the resolution and urging it to issue an official notification in this regard,” said Dr. Baligar.
