K.S. Bhagawan, four others chosen for Sahitya Academy award

K.S. Bhagawan, B.N. Sumitra Bai, Mogalli Ganesh, Rajendra Chenni, and Rahamat Tarikere will receive Karnataka Sahitya Academy’s annual Honorary Awards for Lifetime Achievement for 2013.

Writer and rationalist K.S. Bhagawan is amongst the five chosen for the Karnataka Sahitya Academy’s annual Honorary Awards for Lifetime Achievement for 2013.

The others are B.N. Sumitra Bai, Mogalli Ganesh, Rajendra Chenni and Rahamat Tarikere.

The awards will be presented on November 7 in Dharwad, said Karnataka Sahitya Academy president Malati Pattanashetti. The academy also announced the book awards for 2012.

“All honorary awardees are creative researchers in literature, culture and history. Our criteria for selection were based on their literary achievements that mirrored a new wave in the world of literature and social justice,” said Ms. Pattanashetti.

The book awards are 23 in all for 18 forms of literature. There were 1,127 entries in this category. Nearly 20 selectors in the committee chose the honorary awardees.

The book prize winners are Pratibha Nandakumar, Krishnamurty Hanooru, K. Satyanarayana, B. Suresh, Chintamani Kodlekere, Srinivasa Jokatte, A.M. Madari, S.R. Vijayashankar, G. Ashwathanarayana, C.M. Govindareddy, P. Satyanarayana Bhat, M.A. Hegde and S. Shettar. Translation awardees included R. Poornima and Eshwarachandra, while Ravikumar Kashi bagged award for his work on visual arts. Dayanand T.K. won award for his debut work.

The six endowment prizes were bagged by Kalkuli Vittal Hegde, Bhargavi Narayan and K. Keshava Sharma. O.L. Nagabhushanaswamy bagged translation prize and Smitha Makalli won a prize for her debut work. Amerikannada Endowment Prize went to C.R. Satya.
