The city police arrested the managing director and administrator of a private hospital in Hanumanthnagar here after it was found that the hospital had allegedly submitted inflated bills towards the treatment of a police personnel under the Police Aroyga Bhagya Scheme.
A case has been booked against T.R. Hariprasad, the managing director, and P.N. Mahesh, the administrator, of K.R. Hospital for cheating the Police Arogya Bhagya Trust of Rs. 74.4 lakh in the treatment of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Girinagar police station, Bette Gowda, who is being treated for leukaemia at the hospital.
The fraud came to light when Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H.S. Revanna, who overlooks medical claims under the scheme, chanced upon a medical bill in which the hospital had claimed more than Rs. 4 lakh.

Further investigations revealed that the hospital had charged Rs. 74.47 lakh for Mr. Bette Gowda’s treatment from March 2010 to June 2013. The police also questioned Mr. Bette Gowda, who said he had been taking treatment from the same hospital for three years.
He said that apart from a blood test and prescription of tablets, he had not undergone any other medical procedure.

Following the ASI’s statement, the South division police wrote to the co-ordinator of the scheme and an inquiry was initiated. The medical bills were sent for verification to the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology following which a report was submitted. The report pointed out irregularities.
The report stated that Mr. Bette Gowda had been given prescriptions for a tablet called ‘IMALEK’ (400 mg) but the hospital bills submitted to the Police Arogya Bhagya Trust stated that the patient had been frequently administered with an injection, which is not only expensive, but also used to treat breast cancer and not leukaemia.
Complaint filed
A clerk of the trust filed a complaint with the Hanumanthnagar police.
