Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri attributed the good results in Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) — for the second year in succession — to the impact of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), which completed 10 years last year.
“This is the second batch of students who have passed out after the introduction of SSA in 2001-2002,” he said.
The results had seen a dramatic rise from 63.56 percent to 73.90 per cent last year, when freshers, repeaters and private candidates are taken into account. It has seen a further rise to 76.13 per cent this year.

Reassuring parents
Mr. Kageri said that improved performance need not result in parents worrying about shortage of seats in pre-university courses. He said that nine lakh seats were opening in Science, Arts and Commerce streams. The admission process, he added, was now far easier with common admission forms available online.
While congratulating toppers for their good work, Mr. Kageri advised those who had not done too well not to lose heart.

“Take the results as they are and don't think it is the end of the world if you have not done well,” he said. “Children's future does not rest on the SSLC results alone. Parents should know this as well.”
Supplementary exams
He said that SSLC supplementary exams will be held from June 18 and the last date to pay fees is May 26 and submission of applications to the board May 29.
Those who wish to apply for re-totalling or seek photocopies of answer scripts have to do so before May 28. One candidate cannot apply for both.
Candidates applying for revaluation will have to do so within seven days of receiving photocopies.
The fee to be paid for re-totalling, photocopying and revaluation is Rs. 150, Rs. 300 and Rs. 700, respectively, per subject.
