Judge supports Supreme Court Bench in south

December 10, 2014 12:35 pm | Updated 12:35 pm IST - Bengaluru:

The demand of the legal fraternity for a Bench of the Supreme Court in southern part of the country found support from a judge of the High Court of Karnataka on his retirement day.

K. Bhakthavatsala, who retired from the service on Tuesday, in his reply to the farewell given to him by the High Court and the Karnataka State Bar Council, said having a Bench of the Supreme Court in the south was essential for access to justice for the people.

He also said that appointing more number of judges alone would not help in speedy disposal of cases; there was also a need to appointment sufficient number of stenographers. Mr. Bhakthavatsala stressed the need for teaching shorthand and computer skills to students before they complete pre-university.
