Judge recuses himself from seer’s case

January 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - Bengaluru:

A judge of the High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday recused himself from hearing a plea filed by Ramachandrapura Mutt seer Raghaveshwara Bharathi for quashing of the alleged rape case against him.

Justice Ram Mohan Reddy, who was hearing the appeal in a Division Bench headed by Chief Justice D.H. Waghela, had heard the arguments during the morning session.

However, when the Bench reassembled after lunch, Justice Reddy said, “Though I heard the arguments in the morning session, I have some reservations. I will not hear this matter and will recuse myself from the case.”

The case will now be posted before another Bench.

Verdict questioned

In his appeal, the seer had questioned the October 9 verdict of a single judge, which had refused to quash the first information report registered against him.
