It’s not the first time Jalahalli school management has invited parents’ wrath

This is not the first time that the management of the private school in Jalahalli, where a three-year-old student was allegedly sexually assaulted, has invited the wrath of parents.

The parent of a Class 6 student, on condition of anonymity, said the start of the present academic year was delayed as there were no teachers. “When the previous academic year ended, they did not say when the school will reopen. We did not have any information till June 15. The delay was because when the academic year started, all the teaching staff quit at one go. We were told that they had issues with the pay. How can all of them have the same problem,” he asked. The parent added that classes finally started only on June 27 and language books reached in August. Another parent said the school had not had a principal for the last four months.

Parents also said they were given an option of choosing International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) syllabus from Class 7, despite the school offering Central Board of Secondary Education syllabus without permission. “We were fooled,” a parent said.

The parents of students studying in Classes 1 to 5, which are now the only ones with “permission”, are unsure whether the students will be taught CBSE or State syllabus.

It may be recalled that the school was found to have taken permission to take classes in Kannada medium, but ended up imparting classes in English.

“They even said students will be taught CBSE from classes 1 to 3, in Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) from Classes 3 to 6 and IGCSE from Class 7,” another parent said.
