Whether it is raising funds or finding a platform for screening, wildlife filmmaking remains a wild-goose chase in the country, says award-winning wildlife filmmaker Subbiah Nallamuthu.
“You have to invest your own money till a major portion of the filming is complete. Only a few foreign channels take these documentaries. In India, there is no platform. Doordarshan has one environmental slot at 11 p.m. Who will see the videos made after so much expenditure?” he sought to know at a screening organised by his company Nalla’s Ark and the NGO Save Tiger First. He said the expensive post-production work had to be done abroad as there were hardly any specialists here.
Mr. Nallamuthu’s next projects include seeing the Western Ghats through the eyes of the black panther; following a government-approved shooter in Assam who will take on his mission to kill a rogue elephant, as well as continuing the saga of the Ranthambore tigers.
