In an apparent move to express solidarity with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who is being “hounded” by the Opposition BJP over the Arkavathi land denotification issue, AICC general secretary and Karnataka in charge Digvijaya Singh on Saturday wondered how the BJP could target the former in the absence of any case registered against him.
Accusing the BJP of indulging in a “political drama”, Mr. Singh said there was no truth in asking the Governor for permission to prosecute Mr. Siddaramaiah over the issue in the absence of a case and proper investigation by any agency.
The Karnataka government had not issued directions to denotify lands, but the court did do so within the parameters of six guidelines. The government had set up a commission headed by a retired judge, H.S. Kempanna, to look into the issue and the aggrieved could approach it with records, he said.

“Not yet” was his reply when asked whether the BJP was trying to “misuse” the Governor’s office on the Arkavathi issue.
