Institutions from the State have managed to top three out of four categories in the country’s first ever National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

The rankings released by the Ministry of Human Resources Development had the Indian Institute of Management - Bangalore, Indian Institute of Science – Bangalore and Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences – Manipal top the lists for management, university and pharmacy, respectively.

Ironically, not a single engineering institution from Karnataka managed to make it to the top 20, despite being home to over 200 engineering colleges.

The India Rankings 2016 under the NIRF, launched in September 2015, were released by Smriti Irani, Minister of Human Resource Development, in New Delhi on Monday.

A release said the rankings were arrived at after detailed analysis and validation of data submitted by over 3,600 higher educational institutions in the country on parameters including teaching-learning; research; collaborative practice and professional performance; graduate outcomes; placements; outreach and inclusive action and peer group perception.
