Two long years after a doctor at the Indian Institute of Management - Bangalore (IIM-B) filed a sexual harassment complaint, the elite management education institution has decided to dismiss its chief administrative officer, C.V. Indu Shekhar Vasisst.
In an internal email communiqué, a copy of which was shared with The Hindu, institute director Pankaj Chandra informed the faculty and staff of the dismissal.
Mr. Vasisst was suspended in December 2012, after IIM-B came under pressure from women’s rights groups who staged a protest outside its campus. The victim also participated in the protest.

The written complaint of the doctor, who was on probation, was filed in July 2011 and IIM-B’s Gender Sensitivity Committee submitted its report in August 2012.
The dismissal came into effect from May 22. The director’s email stated: “Further to my email of December 4, 2012, this is to inform you that after following all the due processes, Mr. C.V. Indu Shekhar Vasisst, Chief Administrative Officer, has been dismissed from the services of the Institute.”
The doctor, who was terminated from service months after she filed her complaint, feels that “justice has only partially been done”. She said: “The perpetrators of my dismissal in such an inhuman manner have escaped unscathed. I am still feeling the impact of the undignified manner in which I was made to leave the campus.”
