II PU supplementary results announced

This year’s pass percentage of 30.98 was a marked improvement over last year’s 23.55 per cent.

The results of the second year pre-university (PU) supplementary examinations were announced on Thursday, posting the second best pass percentage in at least 10 years. However, the results were declared a day after the results of the second extended round of counselling for the Common Entrance Test rank holders were announced.

As a result, 67,276 of the 2.18 lakh students, who had appeared for the examinations between July 3 and July 12, have been left out of the counselling for professional course admission in government and government-quota seats again like last year. The results will be declared in colleges on Friday.

This year’s pass percentage of 30.98 was second only to the pass percentage of 36.84 recorded in 2006. Importantly, it was a marked improvement over last year’s 23.55 per cent.

While more number of girls have managed to pass this year (35.95 per cent against 27.37 per cent of boys), the pass per cent of the two groups, individually, was also better than that of last year (boys: 21.19 per cent, girls: 27.23 per cent).

Urban students fared marginally better as compared to their rural counterparts, notching up a pass percentage of 30.82 as against 30.64 of the latter group. However, this was a vast improvement from the pass percentage of last year (urban: 23.68 per cent and rural: 22.97 per cent).

Stream-wise, though, the largest number of repeaters appeared in arts. This group’s pass percentage was the lowest at 29.06. Science repeaters recorded the highest pass per cent among repeaters (33.53 per cent), followed by commerce (30.94 per cent) in which the number of repeaters was the least.

District-wise, Udupi has dislodged South Canara from the first position for the best pass percentage, followed by Kodagu. South Canara replaced Udupi in the third position. Yadgir district bettered its last year’s position by climbing up from fifth to fourth this year.

Performance-wise, Bangalore South ranked 15, while Bangalore North has been ranked 18, and Bangalore Rural at number 12. Raichur has been placed last among the 31 education districts.
