Hamsa tells police that Sairam tried to shoot her

Hamsa (in car) claimed that Sairam was drunk, abusive and was assaulting her in the car.

Hamsa, the woman who opened fire on her husband Sairam on Hosur Road on Friday, told the police that she had fired not three but six rounds in self-defence. She claimed that Sairam was drunk, abusive and was assaulting her in the car.

“In her statement, she said that the pistol was in the dashboard. Her husband had tried to reach for it to shoot her. She snatched the weapon and fired indiscriminately,” said a police officer.

Only three bullets have been recovered from Sairam’s body by doctors of a private hospital who operated on him.

Divya Gopinath, Superintendent of Police, said, “We are now looking for the remaining three bullets at the crime scene.”

In her statement to the police, Hamsa said that she and her husband, who is the CEO of a security firm, were returning to their home in HSR Layout after having lunch at Attibele.

On the way, they got into an argument in the midst of which he allegedly punched her face.

The police are waiting to question Sairam who is recuperating in a private hospital. Doctors said that his condition had improved, but he is not out of danger. "He is on ventilator support in the ICU," said a hospital official.

Hamsa had visited the hospital on Saturday for treatment of abrasions on her skin. The hospital had taken a CT scan based on which it appeared there is no internal injury to the brain, said the doctor.
