The shiny new multi-service Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike office at Netaji Circle, inaugurated earlier this month, is intended to offer residents of Mathikere a bunch of services at one go. Besides essentials such as a BangaloreOne payment kiosk and a primary healthcare centre, the centre also has room for a senior citizen-specific service delivery centre (or ‘Nemmadi Kendra’), yoga and gym classes, and a public library.
Nearly one month later, things seem to be moving slowly; much of the ground floor of the BBMP office is still filled with construction material.
We spoke to some residents for their thoughts on the new centre.

I have applied for a library card. I am now waiting for card to come through. I’ve seen the books, and they have a lot of nice Kannada books as well as books to help you learn English. Once I get my card I’ll borrow books on computer languages like C, C++, and books on competitive exams. I’m also looking forward to the gym and yoga classes.

I visited the BangaloreOne stall there once but was told it was not working. Paying our electricity bills so close to home would be nice, so I am looking forward to it starting in earnest.

It all sounds good. But I wish they would act on our more immediate needs, and provide us with water. We are dependent on Cauvery water, which is unreliable. We have been asking for a borewell, but nothing has happened yet.

It’s all right if the services are not operational yet. I’m looking forward to going there and having easy access to our local corporator. Providing something specifically for senior citizens is a good move. The plan is good, but it’s important that it runs well.
