HC notice to IBPS on selection to clerical posts

May 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:54 am IST - Bengaluru:

The High Court of Karnataka on Thursday ordered issue of notice to the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) on a public interest litigation (PIL) petition questioning selection of candidates not knowing Kannada language to clerical posts in banks for the Karnataka region allegedly in violation of norms.

A vacation Division Bench comprising Justice H. Billappa and Justice B. Veerappa passed the order on the petition filed by N. Veeresh and 16 others, who were unsuccessful in the selection process.

Pointing out that proficiency in the language of the State was essential for selection, the petitioners complained that a large number of selected candidates were not knowing Kannada as they hail from Telangana or Andhra Pradesh. The petitioners also alleged that the IBPS was not providing details of the selected candidates under the RTI Act.

The Bench also ordered issue notice to the High Court’s Registrar-General on a PIL petition which complained that many non-law graduates were entrusted with the task of scrutinising the petitions filed in the High Court.

Petitioner N.P. Amrutesh, an advocate, claimed that a lift assistant, after a promotion recently, was posted to the scrutiny branch.
