The Karnataka High Court will on Wednesday hear the State government’s plea for allowing it to carry out the delimitation of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike wards based on the 2011 census and revise the reservation list.
Justice B.V. Nagarathna, before whom the State’s application came up for hearing on Tuesday, adjourned further hearing in view of the pleas made by the Karnataka State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and others to have their say in the matter.
The commission had earlier filed a petition for carrying out delimitation of wards based on the 2011 census citing increase in population of SCs and STs in the city. A single-judge, who had heard this plea, had asked the government to seek clarification in this regard from Justice Nagarathna, who had on March 30 ordered holding elections while refusing permission to carry out the delimitation due to paucity of time. Justice Nagarathna, while adjourning hearing, asked BBMP’s former councillors, on whose petitions the High Court ordered holding elections within a timeframe, to submit their objections to the government’s plea.

Meanwhile, Namma Bengaluru Foundation sought to file an application opposing the government’s plea and the commission in support of it.
