Govt. considering odd-even formula for cars in city

The city police were striving to decongest city roads with short-term plans such as carpooling, staggering of office and school timings, and promoting use of public transport.

The State government is considering introducing odd and even number formula for allowing cars on Bengaluru roads depending on the success of the rule in Delhi.

“Like Delhi, Bengaluru is also suffering from traffic problem and we would consider the success of the odd–even number formula there and would implement the rule here,” Home Minister G. Parameshwara said on Wednesday.

According to the odd-even formula, vehicles with registration number ending with an odd number will be allowed on odd-number days and those with even numbers will be allowed on even-number ones. He also said the city police were striving to decongest city roads with short-term plans such as carpooling, staggering of office and school timings and promoting use of public transport. Dr. Parameshwara announced that the city police would be provided with 1,000 motorcycles for patrolling.

Warning officers that corruption and other lapses would not being tolerated, he asked them to follow the police manual guidelines for effective policing.

“There are allegations that the police ask money to register FIR and rampantly indulge in corruption. If such cases are brought to my notice, strict action would be taken against them,” he said.
