Goods worth lakhs burnt at leather unit in Bangalore

Fire accident at a leather garment unit at Sunkadakatte on Magadi road in Bangalore distroyed machineries and end products on Wednesday Morning.

A fire broke out in a leather manufacturing unit in Sunkadakatte early on Wednesday morning. However, nobody was injured in the accident.

Passersby first noticed the thick smoke emanating from the unit located on the first floor of Kempaiah building in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar and alerted the fire officials. Five fire tenders battled the fire for three hours before dousing it. Officials said that no one was in the unit when the fire broke out. They said that material worth lakhs had been destroyed in the unit, which was being used to manufacture leather belts. They suspect that fire was caused by a short-circuit but are yet to ascertain the cause.

A businessman was killed late on Tuesday night when the two-wheeler he was riding was knocked down by a tanker on Mysore Road near Kengeri.

The deceased Veerabhadraswamy (51), a cigarette dealer and a resident of Doddabele junction in Kengeri, was returning home when the speeding tanker hit his vehicle from behind.

Kengeri traffic police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the tanker driver who is absconding after abandoning the vehicle.
