Gold valuables worth ₹5 crore recovered from inter-State thief

Police suspect he was responsible for the heist at Lalitha Jewellery in Trichy

The South East division police recovered 12 kg of gold, diamond and platinum valuables from 45-year-old Murugan, the alleged mastermind of the infamous heist in Lalitha Jewellery in Trichy in Tamil Nadu on October 2.

Murugan, who surrendered in the city court last Friday, was being pursued by the Tamil Nadu and Bengaluru police. He was involved in several cases of theft in and around the city.

Based on his confession, a team went to an isolated place in Trichy where Murugan had allegedly hidden the loot from the Lalitha Jewellery heist, and recovered the valuables.

According to the police, as many as 89 warrants have been issued against Murugan by various courts.

DCP (South East) Isha Pant said that the recovered valuables have been deposited in the court. The Trichy police have been asked to verify if the seized valuables belong to Lalitha Jewellery.

The Bengaluru police are planning to get custody of Murugan to investigate pending cases.
