It was mounds of garbage strewn across the city that greeted Rajneesh Goel, new Commissioner of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), during his early morning inspection on Wednesday.
It was the same story at Russel Market, City Market and EWS Quarters, where garbage has remained rotting for a week. At Russel Market, local residents complained that health inspectors had not visited the spot for the past two days.
Mr. Goel directed the Joint Commissioner concerned to take action against the inspectors. He also expressed dissatisfaction over the poor maintenance of the area.

He told officials to work on setting up bio-methanisation plants on the BBMP’s property on Ejipura Main Road and K.R. Market.
Sets tasks for officials
The Commissioner said that all zonal commissioners, while inspecting their respective jurisdictions, should inform the officials concerned of any delay in clearing garbage.

Ward engineers must list buildings under construction in their areas, including commercial buildings and those that had violated bylaws, and issue notices to violators.
They also have to keep a tab on the progress of ward works. Health inspectors have to submit status reports on communicable diseases, programmes under National Health Missions, and number of trade licences issued.
Ward engineers have to undertake a survey of the potholes in their jurisdiction and take steps to fill them immediately.

Later in the day, the Commissioner and Mayor D. Venkatesh Murthy inaugurated the new Data Centre at Malleswaram IPP Centre, according to a press release.
