The garbage from the city is going nowhere. This is an admission that came straight from the horse’s mouth. Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner Rajneesh Goel admitted that with Mandur landfill still off limits, the waste disposal had taken a hit.
The Commissioner, along with Mayor D. Venkatesh Murthy, met Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and city in-charge Minister R. Ashok to discuss the garbage crisis. “We discussed the various options available with us at the moment, besides long-term measures that need to be taken.”

Admitting that Mandur was still closed, he said the BBMP was trying to maintain status quo there.
The BBMP was exploring the possibility of dumping the city’s garbage in a few places temporarily. “These will be places where we will not just dump, we will also segregate the waste and send the wet waste to the farmers. The other waste can be sent to the other facilities that will come up shortly.”
Mr. Goel said that the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) had already initiated the process to hand over 225 acres and 10 guntas of land to the BBMP.

The guidance value of the BMTC land is around Rs. 53.75 crore. In exchange, the BBMP will hand over 14 acres and 35 guntas of land valued at Rs. 55.68 crore. The BMTC has agreed to transfer the remaining Rs. 1.95 crore to the BBMP.
