Frustrated with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) turning a blind eye to dumping of garbage on a road that leads to tech parks, a group of volunteers comprising employees of various companies in the neighbourhood filed a complaint with the Whitefield police.
The group has been working to safeguard and develop Kundanahalli lake.
In the complaint filed on December 24, one of the volunteers says five garbage collection vehicles were responsible for dumping waste on Kundanahalli lake bed and on the road leading to Divyashree Technology Park.

“The road is used by hundred of people coming from Kundanahalli Gate to EPIP to avoid the congestion at Graphite India signal. But now, it is very difficult to drive or even walk on the road as it is filled with garbage. These lorries that collect waste from nearby areas have found this to be a convenient location to dump garbage. Despite multiple complains in the last one year, the BBMP has not addressed the problem,” said Akhilesh Mishra, a volunteer, told
Two months back, the volunteers also organised a social media campaign following which the BBMP commissioner had instructed the local BBMP officials to take action.
“We tried stopping the trucks by putting up barricades, but it did not help. Lorries continue to dump garbage on the road and the footpath,” Akhilesh added.

The volunteers then approached their companies and got CCTV cameras installed at various locations on the road. “Based on the footage, we filed the police complaint,” he said.
On Wednesday, police inspected the spot and had decided to depute a police patrol officer to keep watch.
A BBMP official said that the garbage collection agency was unauthorised. “In the past, the BBMP has seized some of the trucks and filed police complaints. We will look into the issue,” he said.
