Gang war erupts in central prison

The Parappana Agrahara Central Jail here turned into a virtual battleground on Sunday night in a gang war.

An inmate identified as Sunil sustained severe injuries on his neck when he was attacked with a blade. He was rushed to Victoria Hospital where he is being treated at the jail ward. His injuries are not life-threatening.

According to sources, tensions have been simmering between the groups, headed by ‘Hebbet’ Manja and Thimmenahalli Govinda.

Security personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Tight security has been deployed in and around the prison premises.

Prison officials are taking stock of the situation but senior officials were unavailable for comment. Based on a complaint, the Parappana Agrahara police have taken up a case. Investigation is on.
