Gang of robbers from Andhra Pradesh arrested in Bengaluru

The North Division Police have nabbed a gang of six robbers from Andhra Pradesh. They gang is infamous for robbing people using the tactics of attention-diversion.

The accused P. Das (35), Ramachandraiah (40), Venkataramana (28), Mohan (34), Balraj (45) and Ramesh (40) hailing from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh have been involved in inter-state robberies in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Bengaluru. The Kingpin of the gang, identified as Raja, is on the run and efforts are on to track him down, City Police Commissioner, M.N. Reddi said.

The accused would roam around the city and zero in on people carrying cash in their vehicles. After following the target, the accused would rob them of the cash by diverting their attention.

The gang robbed a Dubai-based NRI couple of Rs. 14 lakh cash on April 11 this year using similar modus operandi.

Based on the complaint, Vidyaranyapura police began investigations and found that members of the Chittoor gang are on the prowl. Following the tip-off, a team, led by Vidyaranyapuram Inspector R. Puneet Kumar nabbed the accused and recovered gold valuables worth Rs. 17 lakh and 20 mobile phones from them.

Initial inquiries revealed that the accused had been involved in four robbery cases including one each in Vidyaranyapuram, Subramanya Nagar, Peenya and R.T. Nagar police station limits.

The accused have been taken into police custody for further questioning to ascertain their involvement in other criminal activities, said a senior police officer said.
