The accused have been identified as Karthikeshwaran (29), Abhilash (23), Sunil M. Patil (25) and Aravind Ganapathy (26). Explaining their modus operandi, the police said the accused used to move around in a cab identifying gullible people waiting for public transport on the Ring Road, near Hebbal, and rob them on the pretext of offering a drop to their destination.

The police said the accused picked up Prajwal from Goragontepalya and took him to an isolated place, assaulted him and robbed him of this wallet and mobile phone. Later, they dumped him on Nayandahalli Main Road and sped away.

Based on his complaint, the RMC Yard police tracked down the accused and booked them for abduction and robbery. The accused were also involved in similar cases registered in RMC Yard station earlier and efforts are on to ascertain whether the gang was involved in other criminal activities, a senior police officer said.
