Lure him promising loan, rob valuables

A 61-year-old owner of a private school was allegedly kidnapped, tortured and robbed by three men and a woman in September. He approached the police on Thursday to file a complaint. He claimed that the gang had promised to give him a loan of ₹4 crore to develop the school.

The Peenya police, on Thursday, filed an FIR based on the complaint of Vinod Kumar.

In his complaint, Vinod Kumar says that he was desperately looking for money to upgrade his school. “While seeking funds, he met a woman who identified herself as Sridevi. She assured him that she would be able to secure a loan and asked him to contact her associates Ramesh and Rajendra Prasad,” said the police.

The duo promised to get the money, and asked Vinod Kumar to meet them at Shivananda Circle on September 23. They gave him a list of documents to bring with him.

At the meeting, the duo verified the documents and agreed to get him the money. They took ₹3.5 lakh as commission in advance and asked Vinod Kumar to go to an apartment near Nagasandra metro station where he would be given the money.

He met Sridevi and three other men in the apartment. “However, they started torturing him and kept him prisoner in a room. They demanded more money from him,” said a police officer.

The accused allegedly threatened to kill him, and forced him to transfer ₹5.4 lakh online to an account through RTGS.

After several hours of torture, they allegedly took his gold chain and ring before releasing him. The gang allegedly threatened to kill him if he approached the police.

Vinod Kumar went to a hospital for treatment for his wounds after which he narrated his ordeal to his family.

“We have booked a case against the gang members who have been charged with wrongful confinement, extortion and criminal intimidation. Efforts are on to track them down,” said the police.
