People’s representatives ‘amassing wealth by looting public funds’

Former MLA and veteran Gandhian Sooram Ramaiah has criticised people’s representatives for their ‘selfishness.’

“People’s representatives forgot the sacrifices of freedom fighters and developed greed for amassing wealth by looting public funds,” he said while addressing International Peace Day programme held at Government College for Boys here on Monday.

The dreams of freedom fighters who fought for the emancipation of the country from foreign rule were shattered. Even the education system is not good enough to inculcate values and face life, Mr. Ramaiah, also a freedom fighter, said.

He called upon the governments not to ask help from other countries for our development. “Our country is rich enough in all respects and use them properly for the development”, he said.

Ho. Srinivasaiah, president, Gandhi Bhavan, Bengaluru, called upon the younger generation not to lose heart and resort to suicides. “This world belonged to all of us. Let us enjoy it wisely and live peacefully”, he said. He exhorted people to shun hatred and develop love towards everyone.

Mr. Srinivasaiah elaborated on the contribution of Gandhian ideals in

promoting international peace.

A book on international relations authored by assistant professor of the college R. Shankarappa was released on the occasion.

Principal B. Narasimha Reddy presided over the programme.
