Four held for selling SIM cards without papers

Sleuths from the Central Crime Branch on Thursday raided two mobile service stations in BTM Layout and arrested four persons on charges of selling SIM cards to people without documents.

According to police, the accused used to forge documents of a few customers, who bought SIM cards from the accused. Using these documents, they used to activate SIM cards and sell it to customers without documents at exorbitant rates.

Based on a tip-off, a team of officials raided Jai Ganesh Communication and Star Manpower service, mobile service shops in BTM Layout II Stage and recovered 250 activated SIM cards belonging to Airtel, Vodafone, Aircel, Idea and Tata Docomo along with other goods.

The accused Chenna Ram (28), Naresh Kumawath (21), Yashodhar (19) and Satish (26), were booked for cheating and forgery and have been remanded in judicial custody. The accused could have helped the anti-social elements to misuse the mobile service, and also cheated the service providers and the government, the police said, adding that the service providers should conduct frequent verification on their customers to avoid misuse.
