The Vyyalikval police have arrested a group of five who are duping gullible people promising to replace soiled currency with crisp notes.

Based on a tip-off, a team of police caught Ravindra Reddy along with his associates Srinath, Chandra Shekhar, Byrappa and Praveen Kumar and recovered Rs. 49,500 from them.

According to the police , the Reserve Bank of India had issued an advisory to exchange currency printed in 2005. Making use of this opportunity, the accused used to approach businessmen and commercial establishments luring them to exchange the old currency with crispy notes and escaped with the money after diverting their attention.
