A 42-year-old businessman, who has been allegedly ostracised by the community for refusing to marry off his minor daughter to her rapist, continues to be the target of assaults, despite security cover provided by the police.
The businessman, a resident of Ramachandrapura in the city, has filed a complaint with the Srirampura police on Tuesday alleging that a group of assailants tried to kill him on Monday night while he was returning home and that the police personnel deputed for his security were witness to the incident.
While the security personnel reported the matter to the police, Kareem has filed a complaint against the attackers seeking action against them.

In his complaint, he alleged that the police have manipulated the statement of his daughter, the rape victim, to help the accused. The victim has given her statement in Urdu, but the police during the translation have changed her statement to facilitate the accused, he alleged.
The Srirampura police however said that they have not received any complaint with regard to Monday’s assault.
It may be recalled that the ordeal began when the businessman rejected the local committee’s decision to marry off his daughter to the rapist, who is a distant relative. The victim who was studying high school in a government school was asked to leave the school, based on committee's direction. But, with the intervention of the court, the victim was allowed to continue her education and the police had to provide a security to the family.

The victim who was aged around 13 years, delivered a baby boy and the victim’s father braving all odds, decided to take care of his daughter and grandson.
