First-time voters, who want to get themselves acquainted with the process of casting their vote and using the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) can benefit by visiting Rangoli – The Metro Art Centre, M.G. Road. The Department of Audio Visual Publicity (DAVP) in collaboration with Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has organised an exhibition on voter awareness. The exhibition inaugurated on Sunday will be open till Wednesday.
The exhibition has a prototype of the EVM and the process of voting is demonstrated to visitors. The aim is to educate people on the documents that they need to take with them when they go to cast their votes, their rights as voters and the process of enrolment on the voters’ list. On display are also rare photographs related to youth participation in elections and deployment of EVMs.
K.R. Niranjan, Special Commissioner, Elections, BBMP, inaugurated the exhibition, which is one of the projects taken up by BBMP under the Systemic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme.

The BBMP and the Department of Kannada and Culture will jointly organise awareness programme from Monday in which folk artistes will be engaged.
BBMP Commissioner M. Lakshminarayana and wife Aruna Lakshminarayana visited the exhibition. He claimed that the recent campaign for voter registration had evoked a good response and four lakh new voters had enrolled. “The data of the new voters has been sent to the election commission for approval. We will ensure that the new voters also get EPICs by the polling date,” he said.
